When: January 11th, 2025 – July 26th, 2026
What: The lunar nodes pass through Pisces and Virgo
Takeaway: The nodes of the Moon (aka the points where eclipses happen) are changing signs. The North Node is entering Pisces and intensifying the desire to dream, imagine, and fantasize. And the South Node is entering Virgo, encouraging us to overhaul our relationship with perfectionism. Buckle up — for the next 18 months, we’ll be learning an entirely new set of eclipse lessons.
The lunar nodes are changing signs
On January 11th, the ravenous North Node of the Moon enters boundless Pisces, and the cathartic South Node enters meticulous Virgo. This shift kicks off an 18-month period in which discernment will be key. The ability to distinguish delusional behavior from productive idealism is essential for steering your life in the direction you desire.
When the lunar nodes change signs, we begin a new series of lessons in these areas. Wherever Pisces and Virgo are in your natal chart, these two houses will be sites of learning and growth for the next year and a half. The slice of your chart that contains Pisces will be a hot spot for hunger and increase, and the part that contains Virgo will be a place of shedding and purifying. On a collective level, the North Node in Pisces will activate our imagination, compassion, and escapist tendencies, while the South Node in Virgo will help us ditch any hypercritical or overanalytical patterns within ourselves and in our relationships.
What are the lunar nodes?
The lunar nodes aren’t planets; they’re astronomical points in space that are calculated based on the positions of the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth. These points are significant because an eclipse occurs whenever there’s a New or Full Moon near the North or South Node.
Many cultures have described Luna’s nodes as two halves of an insatiable dragon, gobbling up the light of our luminaries. The North Node represents the dragon’s hungry head, triggering feelings of appetite, urgency, and ambition wherever it shows up in either your natal chart or the current sky. The South Node is the dragon’s swishing tail; it represents surrender and letting go, and it initiates a cathartic release wherever it falls.
The lunar nodes move in a generally retrograde direction, meaning they travel backward through the zodiac. Since this is the natural motion for the lunar nodes, their backtracking doesn’t have the same turbulent impact as a planet in retrograde. The lunar nodes are wobbly by nature; they appear to loop confidently in reverse through the zodiac, but they actually tend to quiver back and forth like celestial Jell-O. And on January 11th, they wiggle back from Aries and Libra into Pisces and Virgo.
The nodes are moving from cardinal signs to mutable signs
This change of signs, from Aries and Libra to Pisces and Virgo, is also a change of modalities for the lunar nodes. There are three sign modalities: cardinal, fixed, and mutable. Aries and Libra are both cardinal signs that initiate new seasons. A mutable sign is more adaptable, releasing one season in preparation for the next.
When the nodes transition into the mutable signs of Pisces and Virgo, they emphasize the need to be flexible. We can make the most of this period by staying receptive to new information and ready to pivot when necessary. We can soften our boundaries — emotional, creative, and/or spiritual — to let in a fresh wave of fantasies, inspirations, and intuitive impressions. At the same time, we’ll be prompted to ditch any outdated wellness regimens and draining habits such as overplanning, overthinking, and chasing the impossible dream of always “getting it right.”
The lunar nodes occupy opposite ends of the zodiac, meaning there’s an essential tension crackling between these two signs. Seeking balance is key for successfully working with the nodes. Resist the urge to throw caution to the wind and rescue every hapless stray, but also avoid sweating the small stuff. Carving a middle path between the instincts of the heart and the logic of the head opens a channel for your loftiest wishes to rush into reality.
Incoming: a new series of eclipses
Since the lunar nodes are where eclipses happen, most of the eclipses over the next 18 months will take place in Pisces and Virgo. At these times, the lights of Sol and Luna appear to be temporarily snuffed out. The ancients, who were highly dependent on the light of the luminaries, understood eclipses to be ominous events because of the disturbances they brought to the sky. We no longer rely on the Sun and Moon as much as past civilizations did, but eclipses still tend to be periods of increased volatility. Eclipses spark plot twists, energy surges, and instability. It can be difficult to stay centered during the intensity of eclipse seasons, but bringing extra thoughtfulness to our decision-making can help us navigate these times more smoothly.
Sol and Luna don’t need to be at the exact locations of the lunar nodes to jumpstart a lunar or solar eclipse — just near enough for their light to get partially obscured. That’s why we already had one Pisces eclipse on September 17th, 2024, when the North Node was still in Aries but relatively close to the Full Moon in Pisces. Think back to the revelations or notable events that came up at this time, particularly any related to your creativity, spirituality, and/or escapist tendencies. The issues that were activated for you on or around this date hint at what this new eclipse period will teach you.

6 ways to work with the North Node in Pisces and the South Node in Virgo
Discover what your cravings have to teach you. Instead of yielding to every desire that flows through you in a given moment, investigate its source. Your yearning to commune with something larger than yourself is natural, but how you do it matters. Journaling, therapy, and meditation are all tools that can help you understand the origins of your longings.
Pay attention to what is imbalanced in your boundary-setting and your receptivity over the next 18 months. What has to be released, reimagined, or redefined so that you’re not compromising your energy or integrity? The same tools — journaling, therapy, and/or meditation — can help you identify what you need from both yourself and others.
Slow down. Pace yourself as you fill your calendar. The nodes will be in Pisces and Virgo for 18 months, so you have more than enough time to reassess your creativity, spirituality, counterproductive tendencies, outdated health habits, and critical inner narratives. Eclipse seasons may feel like pressure cookers, but you can work through this intensity by focusing on what’s right in front of you here and now. Take a deep breath. Count to ten (or twelve). Question the impulse to rush. More often than not, that urgency is avoidable or unrealistic.
