Every month, Amazon, Etsy, crowd-funding platforms, and bookstores release numerous tarot and oracle decks. There are now thousands of decks available, ranging from new releases to out-of-print ones. Reviewing a deck helps readers decide whether to purchase it, focusing on factors like card quality, artwork, and guidebook usefulness. This month, I’ve chosen to critique the Fallen Angel Oracle Cards by Nigel Suckling and Sarah Perkins.
The Cards
From the Publisher
“Every legendary villain has a story ultimately more fascinating than his hero counterpart. These fallen angels are no exception: cast out from heaven, the subversive spirits in this deck have committed at least one of the seven deadly sins to secure their place in the legions of the damned. The cards in Nigel Suckling’s oracle are similarly rich with experience, and devilishly direct: Zepar, the angel who makes women love men, reveals the complications of an affair; Gusion, who can discern the past, present, and future, calls upon you to let intuition rule; while Shax, who has the appearance of a stork, warns you to protect your wealth. Choose a card for daily insight, or lay them out for a reading, just like tarot… and you will find that your readings have depth and veracity. The accompanying book reveals each card’s meaning and explains the circumstances of each angel’s history and wisdom teaching. The illustrations, by artist Sarah Perkins, have been specially commissioned to evoke the dark charm of these most fascinating, mysterious creatures, all of whom offer a special message for you.”

Card Stock and Shuffling
The card stock is thin, and medium quality, with a gloss finish and rounded corners. They are easy to riffle shuffling because they are a standard size for oracle/tarot cards. If you have small hands, you should have no problem shuffling these cards. Helpfully, the cards do not stick together when first removed from the box. So, shuffling is smooth right from the start.
Artwork and the Visual Accessibility of the Deck
The Fallen Angels Oracle Cards feature dramatic, evocative artwork designed to express the energy and atmosphere of each figure. The imagery is symbolic and powerful, but it does not convey the actual meaning of the card. Instead, it sets an intense tone, while the true interpretation lies in the accompanying keywords and the booklet’s descriptions. Therefore, you must learn those meanings to read confidently without referencing the guide.
Some cards feel immediately striking, while others present abstract or enigmatic visuals that encourage contemplation. However, none of the artwork explains the card’s message on its own. Because of this, beginners and experienced readers alike benefit from studying the booklet until the meanings become second nature. In time, the symbolic art and the memorized interpretations blend seamlessly, allowing intuitive readings with depth and confidence. Altogether, this deck offers stunning visuals and a distinctive interpretive system that supports spiritual clarity and personal insight.
Botis
Meaning:
Message: Short-term pain leads to lasting and just settlement.
“Botis can appear in dreams and visions as a monstrous and terrifying serpent. In human guise, he seems a pale, long-haired warrior with two horns on his forehead and pointed teeth. He bears a sharp sword with which he administers justice, cutting through confusion to reveal the root causes of disputes. He gives the courage to make difficult choices and even thought the right ones may seem harsh in the short term, they lead to peace and reconciliation in the end.”
Card Motto: Justice (page 32)
Morax
Meaning:
Message: Take control of events and they will work to your advantage.
“Morax’s symbol is the bull, which in Christian iconography usually indicates the Gospel author, Luke. In astrology, Morax’s sign is might Taurus, and it so happens that Morax is a patron of astrology and all other forms of divination. This is a lucky card, and it tells you to take notice of the others that surround it because they will show what you must do. There is a pattern to life that is often only clear later, but if you can grasp your opportunity when it presents itself, you can steer events into the course of your choice.”
