Deck Review: the White Light Oracle by Alana Fairchild

Deck Review: the White Light Oracle by Alana Fairchild

Every month, Amazon, Etsy, crowd-funding platforms, and bookstores release numerous tarot and oracle decks. There are now thousands of decks available, ranging from new releases to out-of-print ones. Reviewing a deck helps readers decide whether to purchase it, focusing on factors like card quality, artwork, and guidebook usefulness. This month, I’ve chosen to critique the White Light Oracle by Alana Fairchild.

The Cards

Card Stock and Shuffling

The card stock is thick and high quality, with a matte finish and rounded corners. They are a bit challenging to shuffle because they are larger than standard tarot cards. If you have small hands, you may have to side shuffle them. The cards do not stick together when first removed from the box. So, shuffling is easy right from the beginning.

Artwork and the Visual Accessibility of the Deck

The artwork of the White Light Oracle is truly breathtaking—ethereal, magical, and profoundly beautiful. Each image feels like a portal to higher realms, radiating light and spiritual depth. Andrew Gonzalez is an exceptional artist whose mastery brings divine energies into form with astonishing grace. His work transcends illustration—it awakens the soul, making this deck a visual and energetic masterpiece unlike any other.

Even so, the cards are not visually accessible in that the meanings come from the booklet explanations. The artwork, while stunning, is highly symbolic and abstract, offering emotional and spiritual resonance more than literal cues. Without the guidebook, many users may struggle to interpret the messages intuitively. Therefore, the deck functions best as a meditative or guided oracle rather than a spontaneous, image-based tool.

Explanation of the Cards

This deck comes with a well-written booklet that provides detailed descriptions and explanations for each card. The booklet includes sections: Introduction, How to Play with Your White Light Oracle, The Messages, What’s Next for Your Sacred Path?, About Alana, and About the Artist.

The Messages section is where you find an explanation for each card. There are several pages devoted to each card, beginning with a direct message. Then there is a two to three page explanation of the figure, mythology, and frequency of the card’s image. Finally there is a section of several paragraphs devoted to the “Healing Process” tied to the card.

Usefulness

The White Light Oracle is a profound tool for spiritual healing and deep inner work. While incredibly powerful, it does require the booklet for proper interpretation, as the imagery is symbolic and intense. This is not a beginner’s deck, but one to grow into—ideal for ritual use, personal transformation, and guided insight. With time and practice, it becomes a trusted companion for your own journey and, eventually, a sacred guide in helping others.

Rating

I would rate the White Light Oracle 4 out of 5 stars. The deck is beautiful, with high-quality cards, exquisite ethereal artwork, and deeply thoughtful explanations in the guidebook. It’s ideal for spiritual seekers and ritual work, offering profound insights and healing. However, the one drawback is its limited visual accessibility—most cards do not offer immediate intuitive cues without the booklet. This makes it slightly less user-friendly, especially for beginners, and just misses that final star for complete usability.
