“And it burns, burns, burns, the ring of fire, the ring of fire” – Johnny Cash
The Annular Solar Eclipse in Libra, square Mars, evokes the same fiery intensity as Johnny Cash’s song.
Yes, it’s Libra, so it’s about our relationships. Yes, it’s an eclipse, so it has a fated/karmic pull to it. And yes, it might burn – because it’s square Mars.
On October 2nd/3rd, 2024, we have a New Moon and Solar Eclipse at 10° Libra.
This is an Annular Eclipse, a special type of Solar Eclipse where we witness the famous “ring of fire.”
In an Annular Eclipse, the disk of the Moon covers the Sun like in a Total Eclipse, but because the Moon is a bit farther away from the Earth than usual, there’s a ring of sunlight around the edge of the Moon – creating a ring of fire or halo.
A halo has deep spiritual meaning, symbolizing resurrection or the idea that what is holy and divine (the light) cannot be overcome by darkness.
In the fertile union of the Sun and Moon, something special, something divine, emerges. Annular or halo Eclipses are windows into the divine.
Have you ever wondered why saints or significant spiritual figures are often depicted with halos? A halo signifies a divine message – one that is powerful, important, and impossible to overlook.
New Moon Solar Eclipse In Libra – An Important Message
And this couldn’t be more relevant now. The Solar Eclipse is conjunct Mercury.
The lights may go out during the Solar Eclipse, but the trace of light that remains will guide us to discover what is otherwise invisible to the eye.
In the heart of the Sun, we are called to find answers from the deep, informational fabric of our being.
When Mercury is conjunct an eclipse, our awareness is razor-sharp. There is an important message waiting to be unveiled.
The Fall of the Sun In Libra
What is this message about? It’s about Libra – how we relate to others, how we function in 1-on-1 relationships.
Libra is the sign of relationships, harmony, and compromise.
The reason why the Sun is in fall in Libra is because Libra tends to see itself through the lens of the other. Without this mirroring process, it’s challenging for Libra to form a solid sense of self.
This dynamic can lead to resentment, particularly in unequal or one-sided relationships.
Whether or not you have Libra placements, you’ve likely experienced both sides of this dynamic.
On the one hand, you may have opened yourself up to others, offering support, attention, or love, only to feel disappointed when that openness wasn’t fully reciprocated.
On the other hand, you may have found yourself taking someone else’s generosity or presence for granted, expecting their support without fully acknowledging or appreciating their efforts.
This balance – or imbalance – of give and take is a key theme that Libra invites us to examine.
New Moon Eclipse Square Mars – Set The Records Straight
And this is where Mars steps in. Mars shines a light on situations that can no longer be tolerated – where compromise has taken its toll, and things are no longer healthy or balanced.
Compromise isn’t just about giving too much; it’s also about ignoring one’s true needs. Even selfish behaviors, when used as a defense to mask deeper relationship issues, are a form of compromise – because they avoid addressing the situation in a healthy way.
The New Moon Eclipse helps us become aware of these relationship patterns, where we either fail to reciprocate or give too much, and calls us to restore balance.
As you reflect on these themes, take a moment to examine your own relationship dynamics.
Where in your life have you given too much, or perhaps not enough? Have you found yourself compromising at the expense of your own needs? Or maybe you’ve come to expect more from others without offering the same in return.
What needs to be set straight (Mars)? What deeper truth needs to be communicated (Mercury)? What shifts or adjustments need to be made to restore balance (Eclipse in Libra)?
